Waltham Forest Youth Orchestra
Waltham Forest Youth Orchestra has developed in terms of size and standard over the past few years under the baton of Michael Whittaker. They meet on a weekly basis to rehearse to study standard and contemporary orchestral repertoire including Symphonies by Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven. Earlier this year they collaborated with WFMS tutors who are also professional musicians, musicians from the Forest Philharmonic Orchestra and students from Guildhall School of Music and Drama to perform Laura Rossi’s score accompanying the live screening of the 1916 Battle of the Somme film.
Waltham Forest Youth Orchestra is one of many ensembles offered to children and young people in the borough by Waltham Forest Music Service. Students regularly have the opportunity to perform with musicians from internationally renowned orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra, London Chamber Orchestra, London Sinfonietta and Jazz at the Lincoln Centre Orchestra. We are proud that students who are members of Waltham Forest Youth Orchestra represent the vibrant and diverse borough in which they live. They are looking forward to performing at St. Mary’s Music Hall on 24 March 2018. We hope you will join us for pre-concert solo and chamber music performances given by members of the Youth Orchestra, followed by an evening celebrating some of Mozart’s stunning compositions.
