Omar Puente Duo
Peter Conway Management presents
A rare opportunity to see internationally acclaimed Cuban violinist Omar Puente perform in a duo format with his long-time pianist and collaborator Al Macsween performing music from across Omar's career including tracks from his latest album 'Best Foot Forward'.
The music on this album is the result of twenty years living in the UK and touring internationally - a fusion of rhythms from Cuba, Brazil, Africa, Caribbean, Jazz, modern UK sound and further afield.
‘Omar Puente’s contribution to 20th and 21st century violin playing has now become legendary. His generous nature, his commitment to good music, his enjoyment of life and his respect for his colleagues are all characteristics which make him a true violin great’ – Nigel Kennedy
Max Baillie has appeared with rappers at the Malian Festival in the Desert, led Bjork’s orchestra in the Albert Hall, and accompanied Stevie Wonder in Hyde Park. From violin concertos to folk tunes in the Welsh Hills and collaborations with titans like Steve Reich and John Williams, Max leads a chameleonic life as a soloist and chamber musician including classical, pop, and improvisation, with musicians from all over the world and on stages big and small.
Joining Max will be British-Austrian musician Bernhard Schimpelsberger on percussion. Bernhard composes genre defying music or travels the world collecting new sounds. Bernhard grew up in Austria deeply rooted in Jazz and Western classical music, but it was his dedicated years of studies in India that shaped his unique approach to rhythm and music. Under the tutelage of Pandit Suresh Talwalkar, one of the legendary Tabla masters of our time Bernhard emerged himself in the Indian rhythmic system and incorporated its poetry and intricacy into his western music making.
