Music Action International 7:30 pm

London Syrian Ensemble 9:00 pm

Out of the detritus of war a thing of beauty was born. The London Syrian Ensemble is a collective of some of Syria's finest musicians based in the UK. A group of both newly arrived and long-term residents who either studied or taught in the eminent Damascus Conservatoire. They bring the sounds of Syria through a diverse repertoire of classical and traditional music from the region.  The ensemble includes oud, kanun, ney, violin, viola, double bass and percussion and performances also include a range of fantastic guest vocalists

This concert is free for refugees and asylum seekers

Music Action International's Everyday People Project

For a week in late October Music Action International will bring together a group of teenage refugee and asylum seekers to create and play music from their own homelands, sharing language, music styles and approaches they love, to collaborate and produce something totally unique. Regular music activity provides relief from the stresses caused by their traumatic experiences, and encourages friendships with other young people. The project, delivered in partnership with British Red Cross Young Refugee Service, culminates with a performance of their work at St. Mary’s Music Hall 2nd, and is generously supported by Martha Tilston who donated her fee from her gig in August
